The History of 111 Tonawanda Street
Hard Manufacturing
In 1895, the Hard Manufacturing Company was founded in Buffalo employing some 200 people in the Black Rock area constructing steel hospital beds. Seven years later the company would erect their now-standing industrial plant at 111 Tonawanda Street.
At one point the plant had railroad tracks that traveled between two now joined wings of the warehouse to load and unload the merchandise manufactured at the plant. Hard manufacturing would occupy the space until 1991. The company still manufactures baby beds for hospitals on a smaller scale at their Grider location on the East side.
The building sat empty for years until purchased by Buffalo Business Interiors. For the last twenty years, the building has undergone significant restoration projects to protect the integrity of the buildings artistry and culture while also meeting the demands of out business and the businesses that share the roof with us.
